Workplace literacy: Employee factsheet
Eligibility
Literacy means feeling okay about how well you:
- Read
- Write
- Understand when the manager tells you what to do
- Explain what’s happening so that other people can understand you
- Do arithmetic (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing)
- Understanding some of the signs and words that people use for lengths, sizes and quantities.
If some of these things are hard for you, there are ways you can get help.
Obligations
Depending on the kind of literacy programme you are involved in, you may need to spend some time learning new skills either before or after work.
In many cases, getting help with literacy is free. All you need is a little spare time and the drive to succeed.
