Workplace learning in the furniture industry

Furniture Industry Training Organisation

The Furniture ITO (FITO) facilitates workplace learning for trainees in employment in the furniture industry. FITO is involved in a wide range of workplace learning and associated activities within the industry, such as:

• Workplace training and assessment
• Subsidised off job training if required
• On-job training resources including assessment guides
• Training Plan development
• On job mentoring and support

Furniture Association of NZ

The Furniture Association of NZ (FANZ) is working in partnership with Business New Zealand on a Furniture Industry Strategy. This Strategy is aimed at assisting with the development of the New Zealand furniture industry as a competitive and innovative supplier and exporter of furniture through:

• Design capability audit series:
  • To promote greater use of designers and technical innovation
  • In partnership with Business NZ and NZ Trade and Enterprise
• Management Upskilling:
  • Working with the Furniture ITO and other tertiary organisations to facilitate participation by industry managers in education and training

Furniture, Manufacturing and Associated Workers Union

The Furniture, Manufacturing and Associated Workers Union is the trade union looking after the training and career interests of its members working in the furniture industry. The union has had a long association with training and is now represented on the Furniture ITO Board and involves its members in the development and review of qualifications.
